I was worried that even after we practiced and practiced that the kids would get in front of a crowd and forget anything. I am happy to report that the kids walked in correctly, sat still, and sang loudly. The P.A. system, on the other hand, decided to not to work so you could not hear the walk in music, or the music when the kids sang. The power point presentation worked but there was no sound so you kind of missed out of the full effect of the video. But, the kids and the parents seemed happy so that's all that mattered.

As the last days of the year approach, teaching the kids becomes the best part of my day because, for no one reason, it becomes the one thing that I am not able to do so much of. We are being pulled for meetings, graduation practice, and various student parties.... School is not out so why does teaching takes the back road?
It seems as the year counts down, there are more and more things that must be done. I am bogged down with finalizing paper work, lesson plans, graduation practice, end of school parties, and packing up the classroom are just a few of the things on my plate. I will miss my students next year but I will be glad to see them go. I am rather excited to begin a new year due to the fact I can use the new technology techniques I have learned.
Today was our Fun Day. It was our version of Field Day but it was only for Pre-K. The kids participated in field day activities for the first hour. They took a break for lucnh and ended the day participating in Carnival-like activities. Their stations consisted of Face Painting, Fingernail polish/ Tattoes, Fishing, Clown Toss, a large water slide, wading pools, a house house, the fire department came out, and an art station. It took weeks to plan but it all payed off because both the children and parents enjoyed themselves.
Today we practiced for our upcoming graduation. I am sad that my students must move on to Kindergarten but I will be happy to receive a new crew so I use the new tools and techniques I have aquired. I think that it will make for an easier well organized year.
With 11 days left in our school year, my students have finally learned how to use the computer COMPLETELY independently!!!
I am quite proud of them and I see that hard work really does pay off. I am all for including new digital media into my daily classroom instruction but, I borrowed a story on record from the library to accompany a lesson I presented on the state of Louisiana. The kids were so excited to listen to the 'big cd player' and were very quiet and attentive to the lesson. This proved to me that the "Generation M" can incorporate the old with the new.
This week I am performing DSC testing which is a diognostic skills test to measure a child's progress or where skills that need to be improved upon. We give this test 3 times a year and I like the fact that I can enter in a child's answers and in turn receive scores. The DSC site will give me reports that compare the childs progress to other students in our classroom as well as students all over the United States. It even compares the scores of children who are in the same age group (measured in months). This program also allows me to quickly regroup my students and data to determine how and what small groups need to be re-taught.
This week we are reviewing weight and measurement. We have reviewed this lesson 2 times before. It seems that the 3rd time is a charm. After our small group lesson, the students were able to independently use the pictures and acuurately weight and compare objects. They will definately be prepared for Kindergarten.
Yesterday was a great day in the world Pre-K education at Sunset Acres! We test on Friday's to see how much information has been gained on the unit or theme we have learned about for that week. This week we reviewed lowercase letters and sounds. It has been an uphill journey to get my kids to identify their letter sounds and my test scores have reflected this much. I am happy to report that as of yesterday, I have over 80% that Benchmarked in both letter recognition and sound identification.
